Mota-Vational Quotes

  • "Life isn't about how to survive the storm but how to dance in the rain!"
  • "The happiest people don't always have the best of everything, they just make the best of everything they have."
  • "Every morning in Africa, a Gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning a Lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest Gazelle or it will starve to death. It doesn't matter whether you are a Lion or a Gazelle... when the sun comes up, you'd better be running."

After many months of prayer and a long 9 months of pregnancy, we are proud to announce the birth of our sweet baby boy, Preston George Mota! Preston was born August 27, 2010 at 12:37pm. He weighed in at 6lbs 12.6oz and was 20.5" long. In the short time he's graced us with his presence, we have fallen completely in love and he has totally filled our hearts with more love and joy than we could've ever imagined!
The Birthing Story:
We went to a doctors appointment on Thursday August 26th for a check up and the doctor said that I was dialated to a 2.5. He felt like I was far enough along Thursday to check in Friday morning instead of Thursday night to induce. He said that check-in time was going to be Friday morning at 7:30am and we would likely have a baby by 5pm. Talk about anticipation. Those next 18 hours went by sooooo slow! I watched the clock all afternoon with so many mixed emotions. I remember Stephen getting home from work Friday and we sat outside for a bit talking. I remember crying and telling him I didn't know how to feel. I was super excited, but nervous and scared all at the same time. I couldn't believe that the very next day at that time we would be parents. Well, we went to bed knowing that we probably wouldn't get much sleep. Overnight, my body decided that it was going to take matters into its own hands. Induction scheduled or not, Preston was ready to come! I started having pretty good contractions overnight, but really felt like it was my mind playing tricks on me. Seeing as I'd never been through labor before I wasn't quite convinced that what I was experiencing was in fact labor. I dealt with the pain and contractions throughout the night and was up and ready to head to the hospital at 6:30am.
Upon arriving at the hospital, things moved very quickly! I was checked in and before I knew it I was getting an IV and my doctor came in and checked me. At this point he let me know that those were true contractions I had been having over night and I was dialted to a 5.5! WOW, I didn't expect that at all! He immediately broke my water and it was a super fast whirlwind from there. The anesthesiologist came in and asked me if I was planning to have this baby naturally. She said, "If not we need to do an epidural NOW!" They quickly did that and I began feeling much relief! Stephen and I were in complete amazement at how quickly things were progressing. Before we knew it, it was 11:30 and they checked me again and said I was at 9.5. They were planning on me starting to push around 12. Once 11:45 rolled around the nurse checked me again and said I was at a 10 and ready to push! She went and called the doctor and came right back and had me start pushing with just her and Stephen. Before Dr. MacDonald even arrived she said she could see the head! Dr. MacDonald arrived quickly and within minutes of pushing our little miracle arrived! The doctor and all the nurses continued telling me that wasn't a typical labor for my first. Evidentally I had it pretty easy, thank goodness! I couldnt have done any of it without my sweet hubby by my side! Stephen cut the cord and I have to say he was the best coach EVER! He was such a stud and took super good care of me all morning! He's the best hubby in the world!
After lil Preston arrived he quickly got to meet all of his family. We were truly blessed to have all of our family here to share in the celebration of our little boys birth!

The First Couple of Nights:
We had been forewarned about a thing they call "cluster feeding", but didn't completely grasp an understanding until we were in the middle of it our 2nd night with the little guy. This is bascially when nature is telling little Preston to feed every 30mins to an hour to help my milk come in. Whew! It was an exhausting night! Stephen and I were completely beat!! It was good that we went through that though, because the nurses were there to help us and provide recommendations with how to deal with this at home. Since we've been home, we've been able to get Preston on a pretty good little schedule and feel much more rested!

Preston is such a little stud! We have taken hundreds of pictures (and thats not an exhaduration). Here are a few of Preston's first pics. Stephen and I are truly blessed and thank God everyday for gracing us with such a wonderful little blessing!

Crazy Baby Dreams

They say crazy baby dreams are normal when you are pregnant, but I had no idea! Stephen and I have both had some pretty funny dreams in the last week that I'd thought I'd share.

I had the following dreams:
1- Stephen and I left the house to go out for the day and forgot we had a baby! We left Preston asleep in his crib with nursery rhymes playing. After being gone for several hours, we realized what we had done and rushed home. We found Preston in his crib, just hanging out. We were talking to him apologizing and he (yes Preston) said, "It's okay mom I just had to start the music over. I kind-of like the country music better." hahaha

2- I dreamt I was changing his diaper and after I finished I couldn't find the dirty one I had taken off. I looked at Preston and asked him, "Did I put the dirty one back on you?!" He just looked at me like, silly mom and nodded his head yes.

3- Again as a little infant I dreamt I was holding lil Preston and he wanted to get his daddy's attention, so he yelled, "Hey Dad!" We were both shocked!

Stephen has only had one dream so far, but I think it takes the cake! He dreamt that I was in labor and the doctor said that they could see the head. Stephen went to see and said, "Hey Preston, come on man!" And in his dream Preston looked up at him and simply crawled out. hahaha Man, I wish it was that easy! He said he was a little stud in his dream. He had light brown hair and dimples. =) We'll know what our little guy looks like very soon.

Only 4 more days until we are blessed with a baby boy! We are getting so excited! I am off this week for some rest and final preparations for baby. We go to the doctor on Thursday. If I haven't made much progress they will likely check me in Thursday night, so we can get things going so we have him on Friday. If I'm in pretty good shape, I will check-in at 7:30am Friday morning. WOOHOO! We can't wait to meet this little guy.

Please keep us all in your prayers as we prepare for this wonderful journey we are about to start! Hopefully our crazy dreams don't come true, well mine at least! hahaha

Our Last Shower

We have been super fortunate to have so many wonderful showers! Last week was my last shower before lil Preston's arrival. My team had a nice dinner for me at Isabella's. They were super sweet. The room was decorated with beautiful flowers, cute bottle center pieces and precious baby petit fours. It was super sweet and a fun evening with the girls from work. =) We got some more great stuff that we were super excited about! I really work with some fabulous women. I'm really excited to introduce lil Preston to all of them! It'll be soon now, only 2 weeks from today! YAY!!!!

Daddy Shower for Stephen

Last week Stephen's co-workers had a daddy shower for him at his office. I was able to take off a little early and head over there for the fun festivities. They had a cute sports theme for the boys. We got all kinds of great stuff to start off Preston's sports collection including A&M and Cowboys onesies! This boy is going to be ready for football season this year! It was fun watching Stephen open gifts at this shower. It's usually me, so it was nice for him to get to be the focus for once. We are getting super excited for lil Preston's arrival. He'll be joining us soon!! WOOHOO!

Another Amazing Shower Weekend!

I had the most wonderful shower this weekend! My wonderful hostesses were my best friends from college Kristina and Ashley who came in from Oklahoma City (even Ashley who had to leave her newborn at home for the first time), my mother-in-law and my sister-in-law. It was absolutely amazing! These girls really thought of everything! The spread was delicious, the cake was amazing, the flowers were beautiful and they even had cute party favors to hand out when everyone left! These girls really went all out to celebrate lil Preston!

We had such a great time with everyone that attended. I had family, wonderful aunts, extended family in from California, friends from work, neighbors (new and old), and some other great friends in attendance. I was completely ovewhelmed by the attendance and the generosity of these wonderful people in my life. I felt so loved!! Stephen, Preston and I got so many wonderful things! Some of the things we got include: our nursery bathroom stuff that matches Preston's room, our bumbo and tray, our high chair, jumparoo, Bottles/warmer and sterilizer, gate for the stairs, carriers, Preston's first Christmas outfit, some more adorable clothes and I got a couple of little things to wear after baby Preston arrives. =) It was wonderful! We are so blessed!!

Once the guys got home, we quickly put them all to work putting all the goodies together. We got a kick out of all the guys putting together the gate for the stairs. Stephen even got a little gift to open (which was fun for him).

Overall it was a beautiful day surrounded by so many people we love! Thanks again to my wonderful hostesses! You girls are amazing! And thank you to everyone who attended. I can't wait for Little Preston to meet everyone of you. I know you all will touch his heart as much as you have touched mine and Stephen's!
